GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
Performs routine skilled work in the construction and maintenance of the electric utility distribution system. Work is performed under immediate supervision. Does related work as required.
Supplies Line Workers with materials and tools while they are involved in line work. Checks location of existing utility lines to ensure safe installation. Prepares conduit, cable and related materials for installation. Installs underground cable. Backfills and tamps fill material. Installs poles and guy wires. Sets transformers. Digs holes and trenches for poles and guy wires and underground lines. Prepares transformers, cut outs, cross arms and street lights for use in overhead line work. Stocks trucks with required material, supplies and tools. Cleans and repairs tools. May assist tree trimmer in trimming trees away from power lines, raking leaves, picking up limbs, chipping brush with chipper and other row-of-way clearing activities. Required to be on standby for trouble calls outside of normal working hours. Employee is expected to advance through task system to become classified as Lineman. Performs related tasks as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Some knowledge of electrical utility work, equipment and materials. Ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to perform manual tasks quickly and accurately. Ability to deal tactfully with the public.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED required.
Possession of a valid appropriate driver's license issued by the State of Florida. CDL, Type “A” required or ability to obtain one within 6 months of employment.
