Job Summary
Work involves the performance of skilled maintenance and repair tasks of the electrical distribution and transmission systems in accordance with standard trade practices. Work is frequently performed with high-tension cables and under unfavorable weather conditions, requiring skill and care to protect the employee's life and the lives of others. Most of the work entails routine construction. Work is normally performed under the supervision of a foreman; incumbents may be assigned to special trouble jobs in which some independent work or work with a subordinate occurs. Work is subject to inspection by a foreman or supervisor while in progress or upon completion for quality and adherence to adequate safety precautions while performing the tasks. Subject to call-out at all hours of the day and night.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities.
Other duties may be assigned.
• Repairs or replaces defective power lines and auxiliary equipment; splices and reconnects broken ends of fallen wires to insulators or installs new replacement wires.
• Repair equipment such as cross arms, braces and street lights; replaces burnt fuses, broken lightning arresters and insulators.
• Replaces defective poles by erecting new poles alongside condemned pole and transferring cables and other auxiliary equipment.
• May test voltage load on transformers, makes minor adjustments to transformers to either step-up or step-down voltage; replaces defective transformers.
• Usually works on energized lines involving electrocution hazard and requires caution and use of safety devices.
• Locates trouble in primary and secondary lines; replaces fuses in transformers; clears short circuits in lines.
• Accepts direction/guidance from line crew leaders. Direct supervision from T & D Lines/Support Supervisor.
• Must be available for standby.

Other Skills and Abilities
• Advanced knowledge of methods, materials and tools used in line construction and maintenance work.
• Advanced knowledge of principles of electrical theory as applied to electrical circuits and wiring systems and ability to apply to work problems.
• Advanced knowledge of the occupational hazards of the trade and of adequate and necessary safety precautions.
• Advanced knowledge of first aid, including CPR.
• Advanced ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Advanced skill in the use and care of line tools and testing equipment.

Education and Experience
High school diploma, GED, or graduation from a vocational school required, preferably including coursework in industrial arts or electrical courses. Experience as a journeyman lineman or completion of a recognized apprenticeship required. Must possess valid lineman ticket or successfully complete assigned lineman apprentice level qualifications with director approval.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license and valid Florida Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a Class “B” air brake endorsement.
Other Qualifications
Must pass background check. Position is subject to driver’s license checks. This position is subject to call-out at all hours of the day and night. Employee is expected to report to work if called. Employee is required to be on standby if it becomes mandatory. Must attend and successfully complete all mandated trainings. Subject to Florida Drug Free Workplace Act.
